An excerpt from the latest club magazine, The Magpie.
As the new season approaches, there is much discussion about NUFC hanging onto our top players. If we do, great. If not, then I suggest we don’t have too much to worry about as the current setup seem pretty good at getting in talented players.
Off the pitch, NUSCL have been busy. More than 100 new members and many thanks to Rich Gunstan who helped us process these members while being temporarily co-opted to our committee. Applications to join the committee are now open for our Membership & Publicity Officer and a wide range of other roles if you are interested in getting involved. Even if you have no plans to join the committee.
Last season, we had some well attended events, including a brunch with Shola Ameobi (co-hosted with the Irish Mags) before NUFC’s match in Dortmund, football against Milan supporters before the Milan match at SJP and, in London, a comedy night alongside our President Rob Lee and an annual sports day (pool, darts, dominoes) with the largest attendance I have ever seen. Also, some great new initiatives like regular podcasts for NUSCL members.
We are now planning activities to celebrate 60 years in existence. The first on October. Further events are expected to follow. By the time you read this, those who bought a 60th anniversary shirt will have hopefully all received theirs. Please get in touch with Joe Martin if not. There was a significant delay due to supplier issues – apologies on behalf of the committee for this.
Lastly, we have continued to liaise with NUFC this season on a range of matters, including ticket allocation for both home and away fixtures. We will report progress on these discussions at the AGM as we realise that getting hold of away tickets in particular has been a frustrating experience for those of you who are not season ticket holders.
Here’s hoping for a great 2024/25 season for both NUFC and London Mags!
Cheers
Martin Clubb (Chair)
