Newcastle United Supporters’ Club (London) is celebrating its 50th year in 2014. It is fitting that this
year will also see the unveiling at St James Park of the long overdue memorial to Joe Harvey.
Joe Harvey agreed to be the Supporters’ Club’s first President back in 1964 and NUSC(L) have been active supporters of The Fairs Club’s campaign for the last 2.5 years. Forrmer Chairman Roger Douglass and Fund Raising Secretary Jonathan Miller have been instrumental in the Club’s efforts to raise £2,500 towards the cost of the memorial.
What started off as a birthday card for Wyn Davies on the occasion of his 70th birthday developed into a ‘This is Your Life’ style scrapbook designed by Club member Duncan James. Wyn readily agreed for a limited run of the book to go on sale with all proceeds going to the Joe Harvey appeal.
Roger Douglass, with the assistance of his Columbian wife Claudia was able to wangle an invite to a reception at the Columbian Embassy where he met Tino Asprilla and persuaded him to donate and autograph a Columbian international shirt which the Supporters’ Club raffled for Joe’s plaque.
